Sunrise Rotary Club of Tulsa meets each Wednesday at 6:45 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3737 S. Peoria Ave, Tulsa Oklahoma. Sunrise takes the Rotary International commitment to service seriously and at the same time is a fun-loving organization with a high degree of friendship among its nearly seventy members. Service projects include an immunization program for children, assisting at the Rotary District 6110 Medical Supplies Network Warehouse (MSNI), organizing a wide range of activities for the residents of a shelter for abused children, participating in Alliance for Smiles repairing cleft pallet issues and refurbish used computers, that are donated to Sunrise, and are presented to non-profit organizations .
Sunrisers have social outings several times during the year. These events, among others, include a Mennonite Dinner, Bowling events Christmas Party, "Change of Ducks" Banquet, a Ice Cream Social which includes the Laura Dester Kids, Valentine Party and Pot Luck Game Nite .
The club has a strong record of participation in Rotary District 6110 and Rotary International events. Since its founding in 1984, the club has produced four district governors; Don Walker, Bob Melott, Don Wasson and Tom Clark and now Herb Orr is the Assistant District Govenor. Sunrise always has a large contingent attending the Rotary International conference, wherever that conference is held.
District 6110 sponsors the Medical Supplied Network (MSNI), a project wherein surplus medical equipment and supplies are collected from various hospitals and clinics in this region of the country. Needs for equipment are then identified and the equipment is then shipped without cost to the requesting agency all over the world. Members of Sunrise participate regularly in the activities of the Network.
An important element of being an effective Sunriser is membership training. We take very seriously the principles and purposes of Rotary. Being a productive Rotarian requires an understanding of and commitment to the basic tenants Rotary. Thus, the members of Sunrise have developed a strong membership training program as well as a number of club presentations designed to keep a sharp focus on our commitment.
